All classes running throughout the hot weather. Remember to stay hydrated.

I intend to run all our classes as usual throughout the hot weather this week and will of course adjust the playlist to suit the weather each day and make the sessions less intense if needed. Low intensity options will be given throughout the classes. I totally understand that we all deal with the heat differently and some of us really struggle with it.

One of the most important tips is to make sure you are fully hydrated before even coming to class and we will also factor in lots of breaks and drink breaks throughout the session. Drinking lots of water helps the body to sweat and cool down. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink fluids, I will keep reminding you to pop to the side and take a drink after most tracks. So please make sure you bring plenty of water with you and I will also have spare water around the room. Another good tip is to bring a cool towel and make sure you wear loose, breathable, lightweight clothing.

I have purchased 6 large fans to help keep the rooms as cool as possible. I will always ventilate, although if it is hotter outside than indoors the windows and curtains will stay closed to shade from the sun. We seem to be managing fine this week and on the really hot days you may even get an ice lolly at the end of class to help cool you down! As a one off there will also be chairs around the room if you feel you would like to do seated exercise.

Regarding our Outdoor Vibe sessions, if the weather is hot please make sure you apply sun cream and wear a hat if needed.

All classes seem to have gone fine this week throughout this hot weather period so all is good. Lets all enjoy the sunshine safely. Katrina x

I would like to thank my Monday morning Fitness Gold Keep it ladies for my lovely 60th birthday gifts. A fantastic card and a very sparkly bottle of fizz, a boots voucher and a voucher to use at one of my favourite eateries – The Brain Jar in Hull’s Old Town. Thank you so much ladies.

If anyone would like to join our fun and friendly exercise to music class, we meet every Monday morning 11am at the Church of Ascension, Calvert Road. You would be made to feel most welcome by this lovely group.

I’m now back from celebrating my 60th birthday in Almyrida, Crete.

I would like to say a massive thank you to all the ladies from my Cottingham classes who put towards my birthday gift. I was very surprised and shocked. I would like you to know Alan, Erin and I had a lovely, memorable day with my gift in Rethymnon. We toured the city on a little train, had a fabulous lunch in an idyllic spot (with a couple of glasses of special fizz) and then visited the local historical sites there.

It was a wonderful family treat and will always be a special memory for me so thank you all x

Thanks to Gaynor, Helen and Elaine for doing such a good job covering all our Fitness Vibe classes whilst I was away.

Fitness Vibe Quiz Night Friday 27th May

On Friday 27th May we had our Fitness Vibe quiz night at the Civic Hall, Cottingham. It was a great success with 140 tickets sold to Fitness Vibe class members and their friends and family.

Ian Start the chairman of Cottingham Village Trust was an excellent quiz master and really made us work our grey matter! Papa’s of Willerby and Kingswood provided the fish and chip supper with excellent service.

Lots of local busness owners kindly donated to the raffle where the takings were in excess of £400. All proceeds on the night will be going to the Cottingham Village Trust to maintain and retain the Civic Hall in the hands of the local community. Once I have the final figure made on the evening I with publicise it here on the website.

Well done to the team “Spanks!” for taking the first prize, also well done to our joint runners up “Rambling Roses” and “Smarty Pants”.

What a fabulous night we all had. Don’t miss out next year ladies!

Fitness Gold Golf Trip

On Tuesday 3rd May our Monday morning Fitness Gold Keep Fit group had a day trip to Burstwick Country Golf. We had a really “swinging” time with Matt Daley and Luke Bell, the two golf pro’s who gave us a an hours golf lesson. I hope we weren’t too much of a “handicap” for them!

Congratulations to our class members Brenda and Anita who won the putting challenge and Ann who won the driving challenge, very impressive ladies!

The golf lesson was followed by a glass of fizz and a lovely lunch in the Nineteen Restaurant and Bar. We then had a stop off at Sandhill Garden Centre in Preston and even managed to bring a garden bench home with us on the bus!

I think we all really enjoyed the day and I will be planning the trip again with one of the other morning groups.

Hope you are all having a lovely Easter break. What fabulous weather we have had. Enjoy your Easter eggs then back to class next week to burn off those extra calories!

We all know exercise is good for you, but do you know how good? It will make you feel better, give you more energy, improve your mood, aid better sleep, make your skin look better and generally lift your spirits. Physically we all know exercise can help prevent weight gain and make you look better but there are so may other health benefits. Regular exercise helps to combat many health conditions and diseases such as stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, and many types of cancers. Remember exercise is not just to lose weight and look better it’s also important for your circulation and organ health. Our joints and muscle groups all benefit from regular exercise. How would we feel if we couldn’t move or exercise?

So let’s all commit to exercise and commit to your fitness and health. Try and find an exercise that you enjoy doing, that way you are more likely to stick to it. The fun stuff always wins!

Now that Spring is here and the nights are getting longer it’s a great time to get your motivation back. It’s not easy to commit to your fitness classes but you will always feel better once you have done an exercise session. So let’s think about moving more, lifting our spirits and lets all shape up for the summer.

Two years ago on 16th March 2020 we were all shocked when our exercise classes were forced to close due to the first lockdown. I was very saddened and stressed when this happened and missed you all terribly. The classes were very intermittent for the next couple of years during the lockdown rules.

We are now in a position to reclaim the privilege to join group exercise classes as we wish. Group exercise classes have so many benefits. You get to exercise with like minded people, you meet new friends, feel supported and encouraged, it’s great for your mental health and wellbeing.

I’m so pleased we are now fully up and running and all together again.

So don’t miss out! Enjoy your group fitness classes again!

Wow! It’s our 11th Year Zinversary

Wow! 11 years ago on March 3rd 2011 we started our Zumba Classes in Cottingham. Thank you so much to all my Fitness Vibe class members past and present who have supported me for all this time. The classes are so much more than just an exercise class. It’s a place where lasting friendships are formed and we all support each other through the good times and the not so good times.

I’m very proud of the fact that the classes are still as vibrant as ever and some of you have been with me for all this time since that very first Zumba class 11 years ago!

Thank you ladies, here’s to Fitness, Fun and Friendship.

We have some lovely news! Our Fitsteps Instructor Catherine gave birth to her baby son last week. Introducing the newest Fitness Vibe member – Benjamin Robert Stephen Powell. Born Saturday 19th February at 21.39 hours weighing 7lb 15oz. Mother and baby both doing well. Congratulations to Catherine and Jonathan. What a gorgeous baby x
