Foodie Friday – Home-made Passata

Foodie Friday – Home-made Passata

This weeks Foodie Friday is home made Passata!

Fresh and nutritious with 3 simple ingredients; tomatoes, basil and red onions.

The tomatoes are a valuable part of a healthy diet packed with vitamin C and also great for your skin!

Basil is an anti-inflammatory for anyone with joint problems/arthritis.

Super-food red onions can help improve your immune system.  All great for your health and fitness.

STEP 1 – Get your tomatoes.

STEP 2 – Simmer gently.

STEP 3 – Add to your favourite pasta ingredients – peppers, courgettes, mushrooms etc.

STEP 4 – Ready for freezing.

How great is this – Steve Harley from Cockney Rebel playing at the Civic Hall.  Well done to the local music promoter who is responsible for bringing all these fabulous artists to the Civic Hall, Cottingham.  A few of us from Fitness Vibe were in the reception area that day helping to promote the new Cottingham Village Trust 500 club Lottery, so we had the chance to meet him x

Foodie Fridays!

Foodie Fridays!

I am now starting to share healthy, nutritious, simple meal ideas with you.  “Foodie Fridays” will be twice a month.  The meals I will share will be energy boosting recipes which I use myself, which are easy to make and help me to teach my classes.  Here we have our first one:

Tuna salad nicoise

Tuna, tomatoes, olives, green beans, cucumber, egg, boiled potatoes.

The type and quantity of the food you eat plays an essential role in determining your energy levels for the day.  The omega 3 fatty acids found in the tuna can help reduce fatigue and the egg is packed with protein, a steady source of energy teamed with this summery salad is perfect on these warm summer days and prepares me for teaching my classes.

Fitness Gold “Summer” Lunch

Fitness Gold “Summer” Lunch

Our Fitness Gold Class runs every Monday morning 10.30am – 11.15am at Church of Asension, Calvert/Priory Road.  It’s a lovely traditional Keep Fit – Movement to Music class and every year we have a summer picnic.  This year we held our annual picnic on Monday 13th August.  The weather rained on our party so we had to move indoors but it did not spoil our fun x   Special thanks to Andy Chapman from Cottingham Catering for providing such a wonderful buffet.  Thanks also to Tracy Hammond and her lovely Keep Fit ladies for joining us and helping out.  Spaces are available at this Monday morning keep fit class for anyone wishing to join this fun and friendly group x .
